What is Community Health Charities?
Community Health
Charities of Kansas and Missouri, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency,
working with our member health
charities, in workplace giving campaigns. Combined Health Appeal
of Mid-America, Inc. (CHAMA) merged with the National Voluntary Health Agency
(NVHA) of Missouri and National Voluntary Health Agency (NVHA) of Kansas
in January 2000. The new agency is Community Health Charities of Kansas
and Missouri, Inc.

What is workplace giving?
Payroll deduction is the key to substantial giving by letting the employee spread their contribution across the entire year. In most campaigns the employee has the choice to support favorite charities. You may also make a one-time contribution by cash, check, or money order.
The mission of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is to support and to promote philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
The intent of the Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign is to provide an opportunity for employees to contribute to eligible charitable organizations through the states voluntary payroll deduction process; to ensure accountability by participants in regard to the funds so raised; and to minimize workplace disruption and administrative costs to Missouri taxpayers by allowing only one employee solicitation per year.
United Way Partnership
in Solicitation Agreement. The United Way is committed to assuring that
all participants receive fair and equitable representation in materials
and promotions in order that each donor may make an informed giving decision.
Community Health member charities only receive contributions through donor
choice designations on the Donor Choice Card.
National Private Sector Campaigns.
In Kansas and Missouri, outside the metropolitan areas of Kansas City and
St. Louis, the 65 national and local health charities participate in campaigns
established by the Community
Health Charities national office. These campaigns include:
- Aetna
- American Airlines
- Boeing
- CNA Insurance
- The Gap
- Pitney Bowes
- Sears
- UnitedHealth Group
- USA Today
Community Health Charities members are only health organizations,
and comprise the most respected, trusted voluntary health charities.

I am a federal employee. What organizations can I contribute to?
During the Combined
Federal Campaign you have the choice to support "National/International
Agencies," "International Organizations" or "Local
Charities " that have met The Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
requirements for eligibility. Each employee will receive a catalog listing
all organizations with instructions for choosing which charities to support.

My employer has a matching gift program. How do I inform them of my contribution to a specific agency?
You need to inform your employers appropriate department of your contribution. This may be the payroll or human resources department or foundation. To make this task easy, download our Matching Gift Request form (requires free Adobe Acrobat Reader software). You must sign your request.

Do I pay taxes on contributions I make through a payroll deduction program?
Your donation is not taxed if you declare the contribution as a "charitable deduction" on your IRS income taxes.

My employer doesn't have a workplace giving program, but I'd like them to start one. Can you help?
Please call Community Health Charities at 913.831.7002 or email chcsv@crn.org. We will discuss your specific questions and assist you in establishing a workplace giving program.

My company already participates in United Ways annual campaigns. Why would I want to go through Community Health Charities?
You have the
choice to direct your contribution to a health charity that only
receives your Donor Choice contribution. The 31
health agencies do not receive an allocation from United Way. United
Way's allocation supports programs of their member charities. The purpose
of Community Health Charities is to raise funds on behalf of our member
charities for medical research, public education and patient support
services. The local boards of directors of our member charities provide
guidance and leadership in the allocation of your gift to support their
mission.

I am an employee of the State of Kansas. Is there a special program for me?
Administrative Regulation, Article 24 Payroll Deduction for Charitable Contributions, controls State of Kansas' employee contributions. Each state employee who desires to participate in payroll deduction plan authorized by K.S.A. 755531 for the purpose of making contributions to United Way organizations shall enroll in the plan by completing a written authorization on the form prescribed or approved by the director of accounts and reports. State of Kansas employees do not have a choice; they may only contribute to United Way.

How much should I give?
If your annual income is $10,000 a $100 gift would be $8.33 per month.
If your annual income is $30,000, a $300 gift would be $25.00 per month.
If your annual income is $50,000, a $500 gift would be $41.67 per month.
An annual gift of:
- $36 = Cost of one candy bar per week
- $100 = Cost of one or two lotto tickets per week
- $120 = Cost of one burger and fries per week
