promote, and recognize the vital importance of voluntary community
service and personal giving at an exceptional level.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who is Alexis de Tocqueville?
Alexis de Tocqueville was a notable Frenchman who traveled throughout
America in 1831 to study our culture. He recognized, applauded and immortalized
the voluntary spirit that lives in America's heart. He wrote: "When
an American asks for the cooperation of his fellow citizens, it is seldom
refused; and I have often seen it afforded spontaneously and with great
good will."
Does my membership help leverage additional givers?
Members set a standard of charitable giving in our community and motivate,
by example, those who have the potential to increase their level of coimmitment.
In this way your gift leverages other gifts that have an even bigger impact
in the community. With your assistance, the Society will grow to meet
the ever-increasing needs of our community, and Alexis de Tocqueville's
observations will hold true for our city.
Who really benefits?
Your gift supports a family of over 175 local charities which provide
a wide variety of services in our community. Your
gifts, when combined with others, make more impact than any one gift to
any one charity could make.
Can I designate my gifts to specific charities?
Through our designation program, you have the ability to designate up
to half of your gift to any health and human service agency in the Greater
Kansas City area. Click

will I receive?

special events, which gives you the opportunity to meet community leaders
with common philanthropic interests.

percent.
